The transaction reflects Absa's continued commitment to financing infrastructure that enables trade, strengthens supply chains and supports long-term economic growth. As Africa's busiest container port, Durban remains central to South Africa's trade economy. However, efficient ports rely on a broader network of logistics parks, warehouses, rail connections and distribution facilities that help move goods seamlessly through the supply chain. Through this financing, Absa is supporting the development of the real estate infrastructure that underpins South Africa's freight and logistics ecosystem, helping to improve efficiency, reduce logistics costs and strengthen the country's competitiveness. Over the past three decades, Newlyn has established a market-leading position in the development of port and logistics infrastructure, owning and managing a portfolio of 32 logistics assets comprising more than 1.3 million square metres of gross lettable area. Its development pipeline includes strategically important projects such as the Newlyn PX Bayhead Rail Terminal adjacent to the Port of Durban, together with planned logistics infrastructure that aligns with South Africa's broader freight reform agenda and the shift towards a more integrated road and rail transport network. The transaction demonstrates confidence in a client with a proven track record of execution and long-term value creation. More broadly, it underscores the important role that collaboration between government, developers and financial institutions plays in delivering the infrastructure required to unlock economic activity, facilitate trade and create employment. Through strategic partnerships such as this, Absa continues to connect capital with projects that have the potential to transform industries, strengthen regional economies and support South Africa's long-term growth ambitions.
