Absa Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) has provided a R355 million Social Loan to multi-family residential developer Live Easy, which reinforces a growing relationship aimed at expanding access to quality, affordable rental housing in South Africa. The transaction builds on an existing partnership established in 2025 and supports the refinancing of third-party debt across a portfolio of approximately 1 400 affordable rental units, developed in partnership with the Mpande Property Fund.

Live Easy focuses on bridging the housing gap by providing affordable rental housing in well-located urban centres, close to transport networks, employment opportunities and lifestyle amenities. With average monthly rentals of approximately R4 200, the portfolio addresses a critical need in South Africa's multi-family residential market.

The financing supports the continued provision of secure, affordable accommodation for working South Africans while promoting inclusive urban communities. Beyond housing access, the developments contribute to urban regeneration and densification, helping residents live closer to places of work and reduce their transport costs. The portfolio also stimulates local economic activity and supports greater access to economic opportunities.

Environmental sustainability forms part of Live Easy's development strategy, with a focus on repurposing and converting existing buildings rather than constructing new developments. This approach helps to reduce construction-related carbon emissions while making efficient use of existing urban infrastructure.

As sole lender, Absa structured the facility as a Social Loan aligned with positive impact financing principles. In addition to funding, the bank provided tailored risk management solutions designed to mitigate interest rate volatility and support the long-term financial sustainability of the portfolio.
