Absa Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) has provided a US$150 million financing facility to the Republic of Angola, reinforcing its commitment to delivering tailored financing solutions that support economic development and growth across Africa. The facility will support eligible infrastructure projects, trade-related flows and essential goods sectors that contribute to economic development and regional growth.

Financing infrastructure, trade and essential goods in Angola

Infrastructure, trade and access to essential goods are critical enablers of economic activity. Across Africa, investment in these sectors plays an important role in strengthening regional connectivity, supporting development ambitions and creating the conditions for long-term growth.

Supporting investment across transport, energy, water and logistics

To support these priorities, Absa structured and delivered a financing solution designed to unlock investment across key sectors of the Angolan economy. The facility is expected to strengthen greenfield investment opportunities in transport, energy, water and logistics, while supporting broader development objectives and economic diversification.

Absa CIB’s role in structuring the financing facility

The transaction reflects Absa's ability to combine public sector expertise, financing capabilities and execution excellence to deliver solutions tailored to the needs of clients across the continent. Acting as Mandated Lead Arranger, Underwriter, Bookrunner, Agent and Lender, Absa provided an integrated financing solution that aligns capital with development priorities and supports sustainable economic value creation.

Aligning finance with Angola’s broader development agenda

The investment also supports Angola's broader development agenda, which includes strengthening infrastructure, reinforcing food security, developing human capital and creating an environment that supports long-term economic resilience. In line with these objectives, the facility incorporates undertakings relating to sanctions compliance, ESG considerations and procurement requirements.

Collin Talenga, Head of IBD Southern Africa at Absa CIB, said: "This transaction reflects Absa's continued commitment to supporting governments, corporates and institutions across Africa through innovative and bespoke funding solutions."

Connecting capital to long-term growth across Africa

Beyond the immediate transaction, the facility demonstrates the important role financing can play in connecting capital to opportunity. By enabling investment in sectors that underpin economic activity, the transaction is expected to contribute to economic development, support regional growth and create lasting value across Africa.

As one of Africa's leading corporate and investment banks, Absa remains focused on helping clients navigate complexity, unlock opportunities and achieve their long-term ambitions.
