South Africa’s green energy sector is poised for significant transformation, with vast untapped investment potential. Our R1.45 billion deal with G7 Renewable Energies and Cennergi Holdings marks a monumental sustainability partnership, highlighting the critical role of finance as a catalyst for advancing renewable energy projects.

Since 2008, G7 Renewable Energies (Pty) Ltd has been a pioneer in developing a diverse range of renewable energy technologies in South Africa. As Joint Mandated Lead Arranger, Lender, and Hedge Provider, Absa has contributed R1.45 billion to financing the Karreebosch Wind Farm project—G7’s first wind farm to be built, owned, and operated by the company. This will be the first private wind farm in the region and one of the largest, delivering 140MW of clean, renewable energy to Northam Platinum’s operations. The project will contribute to reducing Northam’s carbon footprint by up to 45%, while providing substantial energy cost savings and improving security of power supply.

Our commitment to this project reinforces our shared vision of supporting green energy initiatives, aligning with our broader mission to drive Africa’s green energy transition. As we continue expanding our renewable energy portfolio, we look forward to further partnering with our clients in the sector and strengthening our participation in South Africa’s renewable energy programme.
