Over the past 10 years, AFMI has become a leading benchmark for assessing financial market development across 29 African countries, measuring progress in market accessibility, openness and transparency. Developed in partnership with OMFIF and supported by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), AFMI provides valuable insights into the evolution of Africa's financial markets. The 2026 report explores key developments shaping Africa's financial landscape, including the diversification of financial products, the adoption of environmental, social and governance (ESG) frameworks, advances in digital innovation, and efforts to strengthen legal and regulatory systems. As the 10th edition, it also reflects on a decade of transformation across the continent's financial markets. Launching during the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, the event will bring together policymakers, regulators, investors and financial market participants from across Africa and beyond to discuss this year's findings and explore opportunities to further strengthen the continent's financial markets.
