The Development Organisations (DO) sector is a specialised team dedicated to serving the banking needs and managing relationships with a diverse range of renowned Development Aid Organisations (DAO) and their partners across Africa, America, Europe and the UK. Leveraging Absa's extensive banking offering and a deep understanding of these International Organisations across different regions, the team offers unique insights into the exclusive requirements of these organizations on a Local, Regional and Global level.

The Development Organisations (DO) unit recognises the significance of the Development/Humanitarian Sector and has established a specialised approach that comprehends the sector through highly experienced personnel at global, regional, and local levels. This model ensures DOs benefit from robust relationship management and premium customer service. As a sector we take pride in building and sustaining strong customer relationships via a coverage model that facilitates close and regular dialogue with clients, offering a single point of contact for all banking services.

We look at our client relationships as Partnerships.  Not only are we here to support the banking needs of our DO clients, we also look to create links to Absa ESG and Citizenship initiatives.

Relationship Team

The DO sector boasts a dedicated Relationship Team across all our markets, with extensive experience in collaborating closely with a diverse array of clients supporting the sector, including international NGOs, local NGOs, Embassies, multilateral agencies, charities, donors, universities, and foundations.

From a global perspective, the DO sector acknowledges that international connectivity is essential for our International clients.  To support this, our clients also have dedicated contacts in the UK/Europe and the USA to offer solutions at the Headquarters level and across the rest of Africa. Our International offices are located in the United Kingdom (London), the United States of America (New York) and China (Beijing).

Jolene Abshire, Sector Head of Development Organisations, is based in Absa Bank’s Representative Office in London and oversees the entire unit as well as our UK & Europe clients at the Headquarters. Claire Young, based in Absa Bank’s Representative Office in New York, takes care of US clients at the Headquarters. At the Regional level, Thokozile Mcopele covers the Africa Headquatered clients.
