Natref is investing in refinery upgrades that support cleaner-fuel readiness, operational continuity and South Africa’s inland fuel supply.

National Petroleum Refiners of South Africa (Natref) is progressing planned maintenance and Clean Fuels II-related upgrades at its Sasolburg refinery as South Africa prepares for cleaner-fuel requirements expected from July 2027.

The investment supports Natref’s capital programme, including work required to modernise critical refining infrastructure, meet lower-sulphur fuel standards and strengthen the resilience of supply to the Gauteng and broader inland market.

Absa participated as Coordinator, Bookrunner, Mandated Lead Arranger and Facility Agent, supporting Natref’s financing requirements through debt structuring, syndication and facility agency capabilities.
